Do Something Different this Month

At the end of our drum and dance festival last month, something important happened. A dear friend of mind confided in me that she was feeling bloated and heavy. She wanted to clean up her diet, but wasn’t exactly sure where to start. Honestly, I felt the same way. Sometimes our bodies just send us signals that it’s time for a reset. With the new school semester just beginning, it felt like the perfect natural moment to try something different—maybe a cleanse.

I suggested we commit to a raw food cleanse for the entire month of August. By raw, I mean focusing on plenty of high-quality water, fresh-pressed juices, smoothies, and eating fruits and vegetables in their purest forms—uncooked and unprocessed. I’ll never forget her big, bright eyes locking on mine as she sighed…and said, “I’m in!”

She’d never done a raw food cleanse for a whole month before, but she was ready to go all in. I promised I’d be her accountability partner, sharing recipe inspo, regular check-ins, and all the motivation she’d need along the way.

Now, maybe “raw food cleanse” sounds intense. But here’s the truth: it doesn’t have to be. The first couple of days can feel like the biggest adjustment as your body shifts gears to a new way of nourishing itself. But after that, many find newfound energy, clarity, and a reset for both palate and gut. Doing this kind of detox a few times throughout the year can be a powerful way to practice discipline, build consistency with healthy habits, and refresh your overall wellbeing.
