Do You Know What? Sometimes the Breakthrough Is on the Other Side of Not Giving Up.
Recently, a client shared something honest with me, something I think so many of us feel but rarely say out loud. She was part of a community that she thought would help her grow, but instead, she felt… disconnected. The monthly meetings felt like they crept up out of nowhere, always colliding with her already-packed schedule. And every time she reached out to the organizer, she was met with silence or delayed responses. She was frustrated. Tired. Ready to walk away.
She felt like she wasn’t getting anything out of it. Like it just wasn’t worth it anymore.
But then, do you know what happened?
She opened up to a friend someone who was also in the community, and the friend didn’t let her quit. They said, “Nah. You’re not going anywhere. This community is hella valuable. You just have to lock in and get the value.” That friend held up a mirror, gently reminding her that sometimes it’s not about the thing itself, it’s about how we show up in it.
So, she gave it a second try.
She marked the meetings on her calendar like they were sacred. She came prepared, she shared insights with other members, she stayed after calls to get her questions answered. She adjusted her perspective. She started showing up differently with intention, presence, and purpose. And slowly, the shift happened. New insights, new relationships, new opportunities started to unfold. Not because the community changed, but because she did.
You see, the value wasn’t just in what she was getting. It was in what she was giving. By being consistent, by choosing not to check out too soon, she found herself playing the long game, and that’s where the real fruit lives.
Isn’t that the truth for so many things in life? We get discouraged. We feel like it’s not working. We want to pull the plug. We want to walk away before we’ve even seen what could blossom if we just stayed a little longer. Sometimes, we don’t need a brand new path. We just need someone to say, “Hold on. Keep going. You’re closer than you think.”
I hope this speaks to the part of you that’s been thinking about walking away too soon. There is still more in you. There is still more ahead.
Ask yourself these questions to see if it is worth pushing through and going a step further:
What is my ultimate goal or objective in completing this task?: Revisiting the purpose and desired outcome of the task can help reignite your motivation and focus.
Have I made any progress so far?: Reflecting on any progress made, no matter how small, can boost your confidence and remind you that you are capable of overcoming challenges.
What are the potential benefits of completing this task?: Consider the positive impact that completing the task can have on your personal or professional growth, which may inspire you to keep going.
Is there a different approach or strategy I can try?: Sometimes changing your approach or seeking help from others can provide a new perspective and make the task more manageable.
How will I feel if I give up now versus if I push through and succeed?: Visualizing the feelings of regret or satisfaction that come with giving up versus achieving success can help you make a more informed decision about whether to continue or not. Sometimes the soil needs to stay undisturbed for a while before the seeds push through.
